Query fan-out
Query fan-out is when an answer engine expands a single user question into several related sub-queries, retrieves for each, and synthesizes the results into one answer. It means one visible question can pull from many different sources — and name different brands than the literal query implies.
Because a fanned-out query samples several searches, the brand that surfaces depends on the whole neighborhood of related questions, not just the exact words typed. This is one reason answers drift run to run and differ across engines.
For measurement it means a useful prompt set covers the real cluster of buyer questions in a category — comparisons, alternatives, "best X for Y" — rather than a single phrasing, so the audit reflects how the engine actually gathers an answer.

Send us one brand. We’ll run it through the engines and send back the answers, citations, and sources — so the first report your client sees is already backed by evidence.
Free audit: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, run by hand. Paid work covers all six engines.
